Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you set out.

A few practical answers about local trip support, trails, transport, bookings, and visiting Kesennuma and Sanriku.

Plan your trip

Before you set out

What can you help me plan?

We can help you think through accommodation, trails, transport, food, local experiences, introductions, and contacting local providers. Advice is tailored to your route, timing, group, and way of traveling.

Can you help with the Michinoku Coastal Trail or Miyagi Olle?

Yes. We can help you think through trail sections, rest points, local transport, and realistic pacing. For current route notices and conditions, always check the relevant official source as well.

Which places do you cover?

Our role is centered on Kesennuma, Karakuwa, and nearby southern Sanriku. For the wider coast, we can point you toward reliable official resources and help connect the information to your route.

What should I include in my first message?

Dates, number of travelers, where you are arriving from, transport plans, places or trails on your list, interests, preferred pace, approximate budget, and the decision you are stuck on are useful. Do not send passport, payment, or other sensitive personal information by email.

Bookings and practical support

What we can and cannot do

Why is Sanriku Life & Trips free?

Sanriku Life & Trips is sponsored by Miyagi Prefecture through Hanzo Rest House and Ogama Table to support local businesses and visitors. There is no fee for asking us questions, so you do not need to feel pressured to book anything; we are happy to help you make sense of your trip.

Can you make reservations for me?

When feasible, we can help you contact a local provider or understand what is needed to reserve. We cannot guarantee rooms, transport, trail conditions, or acceptance by a third-party provider.

Can you create a fixed itinerary or travel package?

We do not sell a fixed travel package. We provide practical suggestions and local context based on your own route, dates, interests, and way of traveling. When a fixed itinerary or package is a better fit, we can point you toward services that offer it.

How do you handle changing travel information?

We base advice on information and availability we can confirm, and point you toward official sources for current route notices, weather, and other time-sensitive details. Conditions and third-party availability can change.
